Renegade Art & the (mis)spelling of sampagita

The Sampaguita flower is the National Flower of the Philippines and is considered the Flower of Love. Gita, in Sanskrit means Divine song. With a play on words, Sampagita is the Divine Song of Love. In total, the philosophy is the Sword of the Divine Song of Love taught through a Renegade Art.

Jay Dizon was Born in Angeles City, Philippines in 1974. Shortly after his first birthday, his family moved to East Oakland CA, where he was raised. After leaving Aikido behind in 1997 and during a six month visit with his mom in the Philippines, he was determined to find an Eskrima teacher. That determination came from an unknown calling of wanting to train and learn the art of his homeland. In 1998, Jay's life was never the same when he met Grand Master Robert Castro. That summer began Jay's journey in GM Castro's Art of Eskabo Daan.

The Renegade name and concept came from something Grand Master use to always say, "I'm not making carbon copies here, and if you are going to train with me, know that you are training in a Renegade Art!" From the very beginning, training under GM Castro meant learning and finding your own expression and Art.

In essence, Jay Dizon continues a practice that he feels was one of the great blessings of training with Grand Master, and that is continuing to "hold a space that allows people to grow as human beings."
